What is Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever?
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever is a contagious disease that affects blood system. It derives from the dengue virus, which is carried by mosquitos and usually spreads quickly during the rainy seasons. The symptoms of dengue fever include high fever, rashes or small red spots on the skin, low platelet and white blood cell count, and profound shock in severe cases due to internal bleeding. Diagnosing Dengue must be done by doctors while blood test and/or laboratory test results are also required to confirm dengue infection.
Will the coverage take effect immediately?
The insurance is effective once the premium is paid to the company, but there is a 15-day waiting period. This policy does not cover any dengue fever occurring within the first 15 days following the policy effective date. (The waiting period is not applicable in subsequent renewals)
What is waiting period?
Waiting period is a set amount of time in which no claims can be made. The waiting period of this policy is the first 15 days following the initial effective date of the policy. No coverage is available during that period.
Example : The initial effective date is July 1st,2020 at 11.15AM. Waiting period is 15 days from July 1st @11.15 AM to July 16th 2020 @11.15AM
Can I buy Dengue Fever Insurance for someone else?
How can the insured reimburse medical expenses for being in-patient (IPD) and out-patient (OPD) caused by Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever?
If the insured is diagnosed with Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever after waiting period specified in this insurance policy and receives a treatment from the hospital or medical center either as an inpatient or an outpatient, the company shall pay for customary and reasonable medical charges as necessity for the actual expenses but not exceeding the amount of each item’s benefits stipulated in the policy schedule.
How can the insured receive daily compensation if the insured is diagnosed with Dengue Fever and hospitalized as an inpatient (IPD)?
If the insured is diagnosed with Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and admitted to hospital or medical center for customary medical treatments as necessity, the company shall pay the daily hospital benefits for the amount stated in the insurance schedule, from the first date of admission, totally not over 30 days per each admission as stipulated in the insurance schedule.
The insured person must submit the following documents to the company within 30 days from the date of hospital discharge.
- Claims form
- Doctor report which define the major symptom, result of diagnosis and treatment.
- Blood result
- Original receipt which shows treatment expenses or the summary of treatment items with expenses and a receipt. (If available)
- Medical History (If available)
- Photocopy of the insured passbook with account number and branch details.

Does the medical expenses include hospital room and board, and other service fees?
Yes, if the insured is diagnosed with Dengue Fever and hospitalized as inpatient (IPD) or outpatient (OPD). This policy cover medical fees, hospital room and board, nursing fees, general fees and cost of medicine, for instance. The company shall pay for actual expenses incurred and up to maximum payable per each time of hospitalization.
Dose the insured have to pay the hospital bills upfront?
The insured does not have to pay upfront, if receiving medical treatment, either as an inpatient or an outpatient, from the company’s contractual hospitals by informing the hospital that he or she has “Dengue Fever insurance” with “Muang Thai Insurance PLC” and present the national ID card for the hospital to verify his/her insurability before receive the treatment without paying upfront.
Can the insured make more than one claim for Dengue Fever treatment during insurance period?
In case the insured receives subsequent treatments for the same illness within 90 days following the latest discharge from the hospital, the medical cost incurred will be counted towards the previous medical expenses and reimbursed to the insured as part of the claims payment of the first (previous) medical expense.
In case the insured receives subsequent treatments for the same illness after the 90 day period following the latest discharge from the hospital, the medical cost incurred will be considered as the new medical expenses with full amount of medical expense limit (claims limit).
